This was the morning that J. and I caught the boat from Copper Harbor across Lake Superior (six hours!) to our summer destination, Isle Royale. This was in 1990, the summer that Hibble and Pibble moved out to Eugene, Oregon, and the summer before I moved to Seattle. I worked as a cook in the lodge on Isle Royale National Park, and J. waited tables. It was a clear, chilly day in Copper Harbor, and neither J. nor I had any idea what the summer held in store for us.
(If you want to see a picture of Isle Royale from the summer of 1990, check out my very first blog entry on October 8, 2011. You may get a feel for the island, and see some of our backpacking adventures.)
