My first winter in Seattle was difficult. The days were short and wet, and I fought off homesickness with drawings. I drew a series of color pictures titled “My Favorite Things”. They were memories of the things I missed most about Athens and my friends. I drew the pictures in my small apartment while listening to John Coltrane playing “My Favorite Things” on his clarinet.
This is me riding my mountain bike on the back roads of Athens county, and the colors I remembered from the autumn leaves. It was a brilliant memory amidst the dark dreariness of Seattle in 1991.
