Here are my two latest birds from the Arctic Room. Both have a black backdrop, one on canvas, the other on sturdy paper. I find the one on the canvas especially pleasing, not because it looks like a bird, but because of the colors involved: It almost looks like fire flames. I like the two paintings together as a pair, they seem to compliment each other.
This was a new atempt at outer space (layer 5 on the original “minion” canvas). It became more of an exercise in mixing blue, green, and some white. Below are a few shots of some of the colors.
After I let this painting sit for a day, I returned to experiment more on the canvas, but the whole thing took a turn for the worse, and eventually I simply covered the whole thing with a new coat of black. The “minion” canvas is getting a lot of use. It is already prepared now for the next painting, whatever that may be.
(See that little oval canvas on the table? – That’s another thrift store find, originally a Rocking Chair. It’s got a fresh coat of black paint, ready for me to create something new .)
Love the firebird – and yay! for the oval canvas!
Thank you, Alison! Although most of the canvas paintings are re-painted over and over again, the firebird is one of the few that I’m keeping.
The oval canvas find has yet to be properly explored, but I’m excited about it! We’ll see what happens with it.
I’m finding such pleasure in acrylic painting, and it’s especially fun to know that you and a few others are enjoying it as well!
