My new gallery show at UnionArts Gallery and Performance Space (Athens, OH.) opens in less than 2 weeks, and I’m crazy busy trying to prepare my newest material for the show. The theme is maps, and I’m still looking for a good title. Anyway, in the last couple weeks I learned that I have a torn ligament in my right (drawing) hand, and I’m trying to incorporate that image with the theme of maps in a drawing of my hand as an island landscape, with a deep chasm where the ligament is torn. Here are a few beginning attempts.
The show will open on Friday, May 10, 6pm to 9 pm at UnionArts Gallery (down the steps from Haffa’s Records and across the street from Jackie O’s. Everyone is invited!
Ouch! I love this idea, but–Ouch!
How did your ligament get torn?
Not really sure…. The only real trauma to my hand that might have caused this is the THWACK of the overhead ceiling fan to my hand when we’d just moved into the house. The fan whacked my hand three separate times in the first month (2008) of living here.
Obviously, I ripped the fan out. My doctor says that that might have been the initial cause of my current ligament damage.
Four and a half years later, I’m now trying physical therapy. Last appointment: This past Thursday, in Columbus, OH.
I’m staying hopeful.
Thanks for asking, Sharon.
