Twenty years ago I moved to Seattle, and promised myself a Clarinet when I got a job. The evening after my first day of work at a book store on “The Ave” in the U. District, I walked straight down the street to the music shop where I’d seen a used clarinet for $60, and bought it. I spent three nights in the park trying to making a sound with it (the blaring squwaks I produced with my new instrument would have driven my housemates crazy), and on the third night, I produced a most beautiful sound with my new clarinet. It’s a beautiful instrument, and I still play it from time to time. Anyway, it’s now 20 years old. I drew this picture of it just about this time in 1992.
