After surviving my first winter in Seattle, I began to feel more comfortable and familiar with the city. I started drawing scenes around the city, especially along the waterfront, and turning them into postcards to sell. This is a copy of one of those postcards, drawn on a Saturday morning in the Spring of 1992 at a cafe in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. I really do wish I had a scanner that could accomodate images larger than 8.5 x 11 in., because the original drawing is much larger than this 4×6 postcard, and is a personal favorite of my early Seattle drawings. My favorite bit here is the dog running with the bouquet of flowers, possibly in a mad dash to rectify some wrong he’d done. ( I really did see that!)
Looking back, I’m glad I didn’t realize then, just how difficult it might be to make a career of cartooning.
